Ken HolderThis Boy Scout dad is dubbed “Mr. Gore-Tex” by his troop
"My son and I are new to a Boy Scouts troop in Virginia that is working hard to convert itself into more of a backpacking (vs. car camping) organization. This May, we went on our first backpacking trip in the Shenandoah National Park. We woke up on Saturday morning to near-freezing temperatures, fog, and hard rain. My son and I slipped into our GORE-TEX® rainwear and got ready for breakfast.
The rest of the troop emerged from their tents in various forms of semi-waterproof ponchos and rain suits. Within an hour, the majority of the boys were wet and freezing, and we had to adjust our plans for the day’s hike. As we were packing up, my son and I were warm, dry, and toasty, and somewhat disappointed about missing the day’s plans. Covered from head to toe in GORE-TEX® gear, we received a bit of ribbing (I am now known as Mr. Gore-Tex in the troop) but I noticed on the next campout that there was a significant increase in the GORE-TEX® gear!
I use GORE-TEX® clothing for skiing, camping, and everyday rain gear. I am convinced it is the best material on the market for remaining dry and comfortable!"
