Big City Mountaineers
The Big City Mountaineers serves urban teenagers in need of positive adult mentoring by offering challenging and safe wilderness experiences led by adult volunteer guides.
The non-profit group offers under-resourced teenagers in existing youth development programs a dramatic outdoor learning experience: an eight-day trip that includes a five-day backcountry backpacking or canoeing experience where five teens are matched with five volunteer adult role models.
Immersed in a pristine wilderness experience in the company of caring adults, the teens progress along an emotional journey that leaves many transformed. The BCM experience is an opportunity for these teens to continue their development as strong individuals capable of doing anything they set as a goal.
