OUR HISTORY
Enabling outdoor enthusiasts to experience the outdoors in comfort and protection has been at the heart of the GORE-TEX® brand since the beginning.
Since 1976, Gore’s technologies have been part of countless adventures around the globe, and even the moon. And with an enormous amount of energy, resources, and passion, we continue to innovate with the new technologies and solutions demanded by today’s outdoor enthusiasts.
1959
Wilbert L. ("Bill") and Genevieve ("Vieve") Gore launch W. L. Gore & Associates in the basement of their home in Newark, Delaware. Bill leaves his job at DuPont to pursue his belief in the untapped potential of the polymer polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Our founders Bill and Vieve Gore understood and promoted the importance of respecting the environment. We are proud to carry on that tradition.
A focus in Gore’s Fabrics division is protecting people who enjoy the outdoors. At the same time, we recognize that in doing so, we need to consider the environment and efficiently use nature’s resources.
Our Fabrics division is committed to minimizing our environmental footprint through an active and responsible approach to the design and manufacture of our products and operation of our facilities.
This includes practices ranging from a Life Cycle Assessment of the total environmental influences of a finished product, to making sure our fabric manufacturing sites have implemented the bluesign® standard, which verifies that our manufacturing processes are carefully managed and equipped with the best available environmental controls.
