Take, for example, the Walking Simulator Test, where shoes are placed on artificial feet and walk up to 300,000 steps in a water bath (about the same as a 500km hike across a wet field or stream). If any moisture enters the shoe, a sensor indicates where the leak is and the boots or shoes never make it to market.
