The science is in the GORE-TEX® membrane which is fixed between the outer shell and the insulation, resulting in gloves that are highly breathable and totally waterproof. Moisture can freely exit the gloves, but it cannot get in. At the heart of the GORE-TEX® membrane is the remarkably versatile polymer, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Our founder, Bob Gore, discovered decades ago that rapidly stretching PTFE under the right conditions created a very strong, microporous material. It was only a short leap from there to create the GORE-TEX® fabrics as we know them today. This spirit of innovation still thrives today as we continue to create new technologies to further improve our gloves, outerwear, footwear and other accessories.
