Brand Heritage

We've come a long way from our humble beginnings in our founders’ basement.

Today, W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. produces fabrics that have revolutionized protective outerwear. Our fabrics are highly technical, high-performance materials that have been proven time and time again to be the very best products of their kind. Learn more about the history behind our many innovations.

The late 1950s were a time of discovery for Gore. The '60s brought our first patent - and nationwide recognition with it. In the '70s, GORE-TEX® fabric, our revolutionary waterproof, windproof, breathable fabric became commercially available. Non-stop innovation in the '80s gave birth to numerous new products. During the '90s, Gore raised the bar to a whole new level for technical fabrics: apparel that was waterproof and breathable even underwater, products that could suppress human scent, and an ultra-light, packable version of GORE-TEX® outerwear.

Our tradition of innovation has only continued in recent years, thanks to ground-breaking products engineered to increase your comfort level at work and at play.
