#TestedForLife in the Rockies: The new GORE-TEX PRO

Coming soon: Three new high-performance, durable GORE-TEX PRO technologies will provide top athletes, including demanding mountaineers, with maximum protection and individual, sport-specific comfort. Our author tested out the new material herself and asked our athletes on location what they think.

Stefan Glowacz, a GORE athlete for over 20 years, was directly involved in the development of the latest GORE-TEX PRO technologies: "Gore gave me a new material to take on my expedition to Baffin Island in 2016. It was basically the first blind test because I had no idea which Gore material it even was. I immediately noticed it was more flexible and offered much better mobility than earlier GORE-TEX PRO materials, which were fairly rigid. That's a major improvement for sports like climbing."

"In the past, you had to buy a jacket one size larger just to get a good range of motion in it. It's important that the right kinds of materials are used in the right places to fit the sport. That's how you achieve optimal performance and maximum comfort. The designers at Gore are working very closely with the athletes to bring them these high-performance materials for the Fall of 2020."

"I would advise anyone who's interested in these new products to seriously consider what kind of activities they'll be using them for. GORE-TEX PRO is really just for the hardcore if you're facing prolonged exposure to extreme conditions. If you're planning on short, quick and lighter tours, there are other GORE materials to choose from. That's why you should ask your retailer for advice on finding the right jacket for your kind of activities."

Tamara Lunger, a member of the GORE-TEX athletes' team for the past eight years: "I'm really happy that GORE-TEX PRO now has stretch technology that clearly improves the range of motion and also offers increased breathability. Those are two features that are very important to me."

"When I tried the jacket on for the first time, I was really surprised. Actually the pants impressed me even more. I usually wear a size L, but this time I took an M. It did feel a little snug at first, but I still had a lot more freedom of movement than I used to get with an L. For me, the new GORE-TEX PRO technologies are really a huge improvement when it comes to range of motion!"

Extreme skier and mountaineer Greg Hill from Revelstoke has been a member of the GORE-TEX athletes' team since 2008: "I had a chance to try out the new GORE-TEX PRO generation last winter on numerous treks through the snow. For me, the improved range of motion thanks to the new stretch technology is really a milestone."

"On my skiing treks, I definitely need maximum breathability for the ascent as well and have to know I can fully rely on my materials. GORE-TEX PRO is robust and durable enough to keep me safe, even under extreme conditions."
