Are all GORE-TEX products waterproof?
If it was, this would be a very short article. So, you guessed it: not all GORE-TEX products are waterproof.

Surprised? Well if you did think that everything we made is waterproof, we get it. Because that used to be the case. From our first-ever jacket way back in 1976 and up until very recently, everything made with GORE-TEX product technologies was able to withstand every drizzle, every downpour, every full-on snowstorm the weather could throw at you. (Since 1989, every product has also come with our GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY™ promise.)

But here’s the big—and maybe surprising—news: the GORE-TEX brand has entered an exciting new era. Drum roll, please...

Introducing: GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ products. With these products, we’re bringing our famous quality and industry-leading innovation to products that don’t have to be waterproof. But why, we hear you ask, is Gore now making non-waterproof gear that carries the GORE-TEX brand logo?

We’ve always been committed to supporting the passions that keep you moving. And we realized that there are a whole world’s worth of situations and conditions in your active lives when you just don't need complete waterproof protection. When your priorities are to get more versatility, more comfort, and maybe some head-turning style.

Some examples? How about slim, stylish shoes and boots that keep your feet warm when you’re out and about, but that don’t overheat your feet when you’re indoors? Sounds just about perfect for a working day—or maybe a night on the town, right? That’s exactly what GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ THERMIUM™ footwear is all about.

Or how about gloves with which you can use your smartphone, that protect you from wind, are extremely breathable, and that fit so well you never want—or need—to take them off? Pull on a pair of GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ STRETCH gloves.

And to complete the outfit: what about jackets made for running, hiking, cycling, or just riding the subway to work. GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ and GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® garments are designed to keep light rain and snow out. Which means that, yep, some GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ products are even water resistant. (Want to know more about the difference between waterproof and water resistant? We’ve got the article you need right here.)

But don’t worry, our relentless innovation around all things waterproof, windproof, and breathable will never end. And all our original GORE-TEX products will continue to provide best-in-class protection from the elements, for everything from cycling through storms to year-round commutes to a fortnight’s worth of alpine sports. (Check out this inspiring range of activities and passions that both our product ranges are made for to help find what you need).

Summary time. Is everything made by the GORE-TEX brand completely waterproof? Not anymore. Which is great news for you, and for everyone else who loves to get out there to walk more, bike more, climb more, explore more, always-say-yes-to-plans more, and just experience more. So when you’re next on the hunt for best-in-class gear, remember that you now have two options, and more opportunities than ever before:

That’s all you need to know. But what about a pop quiz just to make sure? Start the timer. Here we go...

What are labelled with a black-diamond logo and always durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable?

The original range of GORE-TEX products, you say? The ones with the GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY® promise? Bonus point!

How do you recognize those flexible, functional, stylish, and downright comfortable GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ products?

The white diamond logo that you'll find on the hangtag of every GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ product? That’s it.  (And just to be sure, that white diamond logo will also say “COMFORT & PERFORMANCE” on it.)

You’re getting ready for a Sunday afternoon winter jog, which range of products is right for you?

Trick question, you say. Products from both ranges can be used in a wide variety of situations, you conclude. Correct! Wow, you really have been paying attention... Original GORE-TEX products offer guaranteed waterproof, windproof, and breathable protection. So if your heart rate is going to rise and a strong wind and rain are forecast, some GORE-TEX Invisible Fit footwear and a jacket made with GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ product technology could be just what you need.

But if wet weather isn't your challenge, maybe some GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ STRETCH gloves plus an insulated jacket made with GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ product technology will offer the comfort and protection to see you through.

Did you pass the quiz? Time to celebrate. Luckily, some GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ products are also ideal for dancing… Though if you’re dancing in the (heavy) rain, you might want to put on a jacket from the range of original GORE-TEX products.
