Original Gore-Tex Products Range Care Instructions

To keep you protected and comfortable in items from the original GORE-TEX products range, you need to wash and care for them correctly. If you do, you’ll be able to rely on excellent performance and extend the useful life of your gear. So whether you’re planning to spend a week halfway up a snowy mountain, or walk home down a wet and windy street, you can do so with confidence.

Outerwear
Washing Instructions

Before laundering your garment, zip the front, pockets, and pits completely, and fasten all flaps and straps. Be sure to carefully follow the garment manufacturer’s instructions too.

WASH

Machine wash on a warm permanent press cycle (105°F/40°C) using a small amount of liquid detergent. Rinse twice, and minimize spinning to reduce creasing. Don’t use powder detergents, fabric softeners, stain removers, or bleach. Don’t wash with heavily soiled clothing.

DRY*

Line dry your garment, or tumble dry it on a warm, gentle cycle. Once it’s dry, tumble dry the garment for 20 minutes to reactivate the durable water repellent (DWR) treatment on the outer fabric. You can do this anytime you notice the water repellency needs a boost.

* Do not tumble dry GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ garments.

DRY CLEAN*

We recommend home laundering. But if professional dry cleaning is necessary, request that the cleaner use clear distilled hydrocarbon solvent (a bit of a mouthful, we know) for rinsing, and then spray DWR on the garment’s outer fabric before drying.

* Does not dry clean GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ garments.

IRON*

If you can’t tumble dry to reactivate the DWR, iron the dried garment on a gentle setting (warm, no steam) by placing a towel or cloth between the garment and the iron.

BLEACH

Chlorine-based bleaches could damage your product. So don’t use them anywhere on it.

WATER REPELLENT TREATMENT*

If water repellency can no longer be reactivated by washing and drying you’ll need to reapply a durable water repellent (DWR). Be sure to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for reapplication—and don’t forget to active it by following our instructions for tumble dry or ironing.

* Do not tumble dry GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ garments.

* Does not apply to GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ garments.

STAIN REMOVAL

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for removing stains. This will ensure you don’t damage the product, or reduce its protection levels.

WASH

Clean only with a cloth or brush, and lukewarm water. Easy. If the shoes are leather, check to see if the manufacturer recommends a leather treatment.

DRY

Dry naturally at moderate temperatures. Avoid direct heat, and don’t let your boots stay wet too long. Convection-style boot dryers work well.

WATER REPELLENT TREATMENT

Check which treatment is recommended by the manufacturer. (We don’t recommend waterproofing waxes or greases—they can affect your footwear's breathability.)

BLEACH

Boots and bleach do not make good friends. Don’t use chlorine bleach on any part of your footwear.

GLOVES
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

Before cleaning, shake out the glove to make sure there’s no grit or dirt inside the main hand chamber and finger cavities.

STAIN REMOVAL

Use a pre-wash treatment, and make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions. Before starting to wash them normally, rinse well to remove all the stain remover product.

WASH

Hand wash your gloves in lukewarm water with a small amount of detergent. Machines can be too rough, and clasps and straps can get trapped or damaged. Also, stay away from fabric softeners: they can reduce your gloves’ protection.

DRY

Gently squeeze water from the fingers to wrist. To dry, position them so the wrist points down. Don’t place in sun, or on a heater. Shell gloves can be tumble dried on a low heat setting. When gloves are half dry, put them on and make a fist to restore their original shape.

WATER REPELLENT TREATMENT

If water doesn’t bead and run off after washing you’ll need to reapply a durable water repellent (DWR). Use a water-based restorative to do so, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Atoms/Icon/washing/1 Copy 3 Created with Sketch.

BLEACH

Keep chlorine bleach well away from your gloves, as it may damage them.

IRON

There’s no reason to iron your gloves. And doing so may damage them.

CARE TIPS

  • Do not place damp gloves on other garments: dyed leather can stain when it is wet.
  • Do your best to protect gloves against damage from buckles, ski edges, and other sharp objects.
