Stefan Glowacz was born in 1965 in Tittmoning, Bavaria, and grew up in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Even though he has spent 30 years competing in climbing events and taking part in expeditions, Stefan Glowacz is still considered one of the best climbers in the world.

His achievements include spectacular first ascents in the Alps and expeditions to some of the most remote parts of the world. He is the epitome of the modern-day explorer and father of triplets. “By fair means” is the motto that reflects the character of all his projects. This means that he reaches his destinations at the edge of civilization “under his own steam”, without using technical aids such as planes or helicopters.

Stefan Glowacz

On a kajak and climbing expedition to Baffin Island in the north of Canada a polar bear tore down our tent. For 20 days the only things we had to protect us against the rain, snow and freezing temperatures were the clothes we were wearing. That was when I really learnt to appreciate my GORE-TEX products. Even under these extreme conditions I was able to rely one hundred percent on my equipment. On my expeditions to the end of the world GORE-TEX products have become a kind of life insurance for me. Over the last 20 years the experience I have acquired has been channelled into new product developments and improvements to the GORE-TEX technology.
