My favorite place during any season is New York City period. Everyday and area is different. You can start upstate in the Hudson Valley, catch a Yankees game in the Bronx, and then back in the city for dinner or drinks.

Q&A with Jordan Nichollas (@jordanichollas), New York

GORE-TEX Studio: This one is getting harder and harder these days - but how would you describe yourself in 1 sentence max?

Jordan Nichollas: I am a protagonist.

GORE-TEX Studio: Tell us a bit about your city’s climate. What are your three favorite spots - in the summer, in the winter (outside)? What is your favorite method of transportation and why? How do you prep for bad weather if you spend time outside?

Jordan Nichollas: I live in New York City and the climate always changes. It can start cold in the morning and get warm mid day or vice versa.

My favorite place during any season is New York City period. Everyday and area is different. You can start upstate in the Hudson Valley, catch a Yankees game in the Bronx, and then back in the city for dinner or drinks.

My favorite form of transportation is to walk. You see so much in a day, especially if the weather is nice out.

GORE-TEX Studio: Tell us a bit about your professional life and do you draw a hard line between private/professional? What were your most memorable moments professionally, your biggest achievements?

Jordan Nichollas: I do a bit of everything consulting, styling, and design. Working in these fields, the line between private and professional kind of blur to an extent.

My most memorable moment professionally was working on my first shoe, the Salomon CSWP Shelter boot for Better Gift Shop. Seeing the response from friends and the connection made with people whom I never met that purchased the shoe was surreal. It’s this sensation from putting something from your mind, to paper, to digital and then seeing it in actual form, something that doesn’t get old.

GORE-TEX Studio: What are you wearing today, why are you wearing it, did you have a particular weather scenario in mind when choosing this piece? What do you love most about your GORE-TEX product?

Jordan Nichollas: I am wearing the Salomon X Ultra 3 GTX with Better Gift Shop. It rained earlier so there are a bunch of puddles. It's a great shoe to wear that is built to perform on multiple terrains, and in multiple weather conditions it’s really comfortable for New York. Lots of uneven cracked sidewalks, gravel, dirt, mud, and puddles. Comfortable, durable and waterproof.

It’s a different connection for me. I was able to work on this specific shoe with my good friend Oliver Catahan. It’s a unique colorway that just goes with everything. It’s filled with neutral colors that all work great with each other.

GORE-TEX Studio: Where and when did you get this… Do you have any special memories connected to this item? If you could go anywhere, where would you like to take this piece?

Jordan Nichollas: I got these in March of 2021 from Better Gift Shop. I would love to take them to Dallol in Ethiopia. There are these Sulphuric Volcanoes with lots of vibrant colors; otherworldly. Been a dream to go for some time.

GORE-TEX Studio: Tell us about your current and upcoming projects… what are you looking for in the next six months and what challenges do you see that you’re excited about?

Jordan Nichollas: Just sent in the final design for the next Salomon project. In the next 6 months it will be a new year and I should have final production samples. That’s what I am most excited about. A few other major projects I’ve had my hand in I can’t speak on at the moment but these are what I’m looking forward to also.
