    Six Stories of GORE-TEX Products is an ongoing series that delves into the GORE-TEX brand’s pioneering partnerships with fashion and lifestyle brands around the world.

    REMEMBERING BOB GORE

    This introduction to Six Stories of GORE-TEX Products is dedicated to Robert W. “Bob” Gore, who passed away on September 17, 2020 at the age of 83. His scientific achievements created GORE-TEX Products and paved the way for advancements in industries as varied as performance fabrics, medical devices, space exploration and filtration.

    A PROLIFIC INVENTOR

    Bob’s commitment to research and development led to his 1969 discovery of a versatile new polymer form, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). The introduction of this groundbreaking new material opened a world of possibilities for products and further innovations. The substance provided myriad new product applications including GORE-TEX® Fabrics, the world’s first waterproof breathable outerwear and a product that through the years has become synonymous with the outdoors.

    Bob’s innovative spirit shaped our Enterprise from the very beginning, paving the way for W. L. Gore & Associates to improve lives and industries. We will continue to build on his legacy with a commitment toward breaking new ground and developing solutions that make the world a better place.

    The Six Stories of GORE-TEX Products are a series of books that highlight GORE-TEX's partnerships with some of the world's most innovative apparel and footwear brands. In each of the four volumes of the book to date, the focus has been on a different characteristic or location that brings the six stories together, whether that means showcasing forward-thinking design from Japan or celebrating the diverse ways that creative collaboration can manifest itself. Past features have offered insight into partnerships with brands such as Visvim, OFF-WHITE C/O VIRGIL ABLOHTM and adidas Originals.
