    Brand Focus: Snow Peak × TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance

    "A SNEAKER-BOOT HYBRID THAT FORGES A NEW TRAIL”

    MEET THE R_C4

    TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance worked with Japanese outdoor brand Snow Peak to create the technical R_C4 hiking shoe.

    The R_C4 blends strengths from each brand, merging New Balance’s expertise in footwear, with Snow Peak’s penchant for creating clever and utilitarian products that are meant for the outdoors. Following up on a navy blue iteration from 2019, the R_C4 was then re-imagined in a triple-black color scheme for 2021.

    JAPANESE SENSIBILITIES

    Focusing on their ambition of creating forward-thinking designs rooted in functionality and quality, TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance and Snow Peak used a GORE-TEX waterproof membrane for the utilitarian R_C4 silhouette.

    ABOUT TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO

    New Balance TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance is New Balance’s Japanese-design incubator that is focused on interpreting the American footwear brand in a purely Japanese way, with the aim of marrying materials, processes, and innovations in new ways. Despite being recently established as an experimental arm of the New Balance brand, TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance and GORE-TEX have become close collaborators.

    Snow Peak is a Japanese brand specializing in outdoor apparel and gear, including premium camping equipment, from cookware and tenting to apparel. In addition to premium camping gear like lanterns and outdoor grills, Snow Peak also specializes in apparel not limited to traditional Noragi jackets and clever, technical garments like fireproof windbreakers and insect-repellent garments. Snow Peak is taking references from conventional Japanese garments and products and elevating them into a modern vision of outdoor gear.
